So, this is probably the last update for this site. We’re married. And it was so great that most of you could make it there to be with us. For those that couldn’t, here are some sources of pictures to remember the event.

It has been brought to my attention (thanks, Becky!) that I haven’t yet defined anything about what we expect guests to wear when they attend the wedding. The good news is, it’s pretty simple – though hard to describe using official attire terminology.
Does “nice-casual” make sense to everyone? Anything nicer than jeans but not so far as a tux or evening gown will satisfy us (and our grandmothers).
Of course, the fact that you’re in attendance is far more important than what you’re wearing there, but I know how anxious I get when I don’t know what other people will be wearing, so I hope this helps anyone else prone to such worries.
Oh, and one specific request: please don’t come dressed as part of any fictional couple we may recognize, because then we will be jealous that you get to wear a costume and we don’t.
Preparations are progressing! Though not as quickly as time seems to be.
Apologies to anyone who has gone looking for the registry already – we’re currently in the midst of what our grandchildren will know as the Great Dinnerware Quest of ’11, which involves Nathan and me putting aside our minor differences of style preference in order to make war against the greater foes of Low Quality, Unreasonably Difficult Care, and the newest and possibly most daunting to face, Minimum Order One Case. The turquoise Fiestaware is not likely to stay, though it is pretty. As always, I’m dazed and confused and people keep refusing to tell me what I want.
As is always my problem with posting on a blog, I would need more than one hand to count the things I’ve said would make great wedding blog posts in the last week, and now cannot think of any of them. Alas.
Things are getting done very slowly, but it seems like we’re finally just about there. Most of the biggest things have been covered.. location, clothes, decorations, food (sort of), we have our rings, and we’re working out the fine details of the ceremony itself. But, there are so many little things yet to be handled…
We’ve got to get invitations out to you all in the next month or so (which means I have to design/print them)… we have to create a registry… we have to finish the ceremony plans… we have to choose a good hotel for all of you to stay at… we have to sort out catering, we know what we want but it’s probably a good idea if they do. So much to do in so little time.
I guess it’s all just a bit overwhelming right now, but it’s exciting. And it’s going to be great. Watch the mail for your invites in the coming months so you can RSVP here on our website. Can’t wait to see you all there.
My mom is officially amazing: she secured our picnic shelter at Maybury today! This is especially good news because now we don’t have to send out addenda to all our save-the-dates. We’re gonna go check the park out again and do some paperwork this weekend.
Things are starting to come together. Save-the-date cards are trickling their way out into the world, we’re going to meet with the caterer this week too, and (rather surprisingly I’ll admit) there were even a few ideas in the Martha Stewart Weddings magazine that I might want to use – though not the $16-per-person invitations or the gourmet restaurant style china and gold place settings, I’m afraid. We’ll see about those for a distant anniversary. But anyway, preparations are slowly but steadily accumulating and I’m really looking forward to seeing how all this turns out on the big day.
Obligatory acknowledgement of the calendar: omg I’m getting married this year!!
Because the post office doesn’t have enough to contend with this time of year, Nathan and I decided to send out our save-the-date cards this month. This of course means that we… need to have save-the-date cards printed. And that means that we need something to put on them.
Which is why yesterday (and again today, but that comes later) found us by the edge of the pond behind our house, toting camera and tripod and looking for the best place to pose an appropriate photo.
We settled on a tree.
Finding an accessible branch with room for two people was one task. Climbing up to it was another. Finding a good vantage point for the camera was yet another; and by far the most difficult was getting the camera to stay there while Nathan joined me on the tree branch with the camera’s remote. I did a pelvically distressing amount of sitting around
and looking pretty
yesterday, while Nathan tried this angle and that one and eventually abandoned the tripod for a couple of convenient tree branches.
Then, it became a matter of getting the remote shutter control to talk to the camera… from thirty feet away, with a little IR LED that had to stand out against the sunlight behind us.
It worked from almost the right position:
But not from where we needed to be. After an eternity (or about twenty minutes) of fruitless clicking from all angles, we abandoned the endeavor for the day and secured a promise from Nathan’s parents to come over and assist us when the sun returned.
Of course, it was cloudy today, and much colder, but things worked out anyway. Karen arrived in the early afternoon and helped us clear vines and trees (temporarily! no vegegation was severely harmed in the making of these cards) out of the way, and snapped a few photos before John joined us (in his Santa hat) and took over the snazzy-camera operation. Much to their disappointment, nobody fell in the pond while posing, though it was a close thing a few times:
Fortunately, when we all returned indoors and checked out the pics, we did find a couple that were usable, and one of them should be making its way into your mailbox sometime in the next few weeks.
And how very posty it is.
Hooray we’re getting married!
Welcome to our wedding site. To those who don’t know.. we’re getting married soon! September 10, 2011 to be precise. It’s not totally complete yet, but hopefully it will be shortly. We’ll try and keep this up-to-date with all the info you need in order to enjoy our wedding half as much as we do :)
